Below you can read more about the Spanish pilots conducted at the University of Girona (Spain).

A first pilot test was implemented during the second term of the 2024-2025 year to accredit two sustainability competencies in the bachelor’s degrees in Primary and Early Childhood Education at the University of Girona (UdG). The “Systems Thinking Promoter”, included in the subject Experiences in Scientific and Environmental Education at School, certifies the competency of designing teaching-learning sequences that help students understand systems. “Conscious Change Agent”, as part of Geography in a Changing World, recognizes the ability to develop actions and projects for sustainability while improving the professional teaching practice, educational management and relationships with the environment.

The digital micro-credential pilot was concluded with a final reflection stage where both students’ and teachers’ views were taken into account to face upcoming challenges and future opportunities. Students have found the methodology helpful while learning about sustainability. They highlighted key factors – the application of practical approaches and the support received from their teachers. The most positive factor for the leachers leading the pilot courses was that the pilots were aligned with the curriculum, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) through collaborative learning.
