Learning modules

Work package 3 aimed to define, design, and refine learning modules and educational guidelines to foster Education for Sustainable Development, Key Sustainability Competences (KSC), and Futures Literacy for a variety of teacher-training programmes. The learning modules needed to facilitate learning that fulfills the competence criteria of the digital open badges designed in WP4.

The work package proceeded through the following phases:

Defining outcomes of KSC Teacher Training pilots

Teacher competences that are supportive of Education for Sustainable Development were first established just after the results from the research (WP2 and 4). In accordance with the badge design in WP4, four badge areas, structuring these competences, were selected.

Defining learning processes, designing principles, and instructional strategies

In several communal meetings, arranged together with WP4 and leading up to the actual pilot design, participants were introduced to specific learning processes, design principles and instructional strategies that go hand in hand with ESD. An actualised summary of these can be found in the November 24 blog. Some of the dilemmas that come with designing ESD were addressed during a workshop on EAPRIL 2024.

Designing learning activities, materials and assessment & Developing outputs: online publication & seminar (November 2023)

Leading up to and during the seminar in Groningen in November 2024, the partners were invited to capture their pilot modules with the aid of an ex-ante design canvas. This allowed to capture the initial ideas and choices, to be revisited after the pilots were conducted. Also, the badge areas were introduced to the public in 4 short video-clips and a webinar.

Refining the Design after pilots (spring 2025)

With an updated canvas, this time ex post, in the final consortium meeting in Prague, all partners revisited their designs of the national pilot modules

The WP was led by Hanze University of Applied Sciences.
