Seksuaalisuus, seurustelu ja suhteet ovat osa nuorten arkea, mutta niihin liittyy myös kipupisteitä ja ongelmallisia ilmiöitä, joista toistaiseksi on ollut melko vähän tutkimustietoa saatavilla. Mitä on seurustelusuhdeväkivalta? Miten digitaaliset ympäristöt muuttavat nuorten kohtaamia seksuaalisuuteen liittyviä riskejä? Näitä ja muita nuoriin, seksuaalisuuteen ja riskeihin liittyviä kysymyksiä pohditaan Kiistelty suostumus: läheisyyden digitaalinen ja sosiaalinen rajankäynti nuorten romanttisissa suhteissa –tutkimushankkeen järjestämässä seminaarissa.
Suomenkielisessä aamupäiväosiossa (klo 10–12) julkaistaan seurustelusuhdeväkivaltaa koskevan uuden kyselyn tulokset. Englanninkielisessä iltapäiväosiossa (klo 13–16) keskustellaan digitaalisuudesta ja esitellään muita hankkeen tutkimustuloksia. Sexuality and relationships are a part of young people’s everyday lives, but some of the risks and problematic phenomena related to them have this far remained underexplored in research. What kind of violence occurs in young people’s intimate relations? How digital environments change the risks that young people encounter? These and other questions are discussed in a seminar organized by the research project Contested Consent (CoCo): Social and Digital Borders and Orders of Intimacy in Young People’s Romantic Engagements.
The Finnish-language morning session (at 10–12) presents findings from the new survey on intimate partner violence in young people’s relationships. The English-language afternoon session (at 13–16) focuses on digitality and discusses project’s research findings. Digital Gender-Sexual Violations: The Threat of Emerging Advanced Technologies by Jeff Hearn (with Matthew Hall and Ruth Lewis):
In this presentation, Hearn considers the importance and impacts of digital gender-sexual violations – in their many and various forms, such as image-based sexual abuse, upskirting, and online abuse of girls and women often not known IRL. The presentation explores the threats posed by emerging advanced technological developments, including e.g. malevolent use of AI and deepfake pornography.
Jeff Hearn is a Professor Emeritus, Hanken School of Economics, Finland; Senior Professor, Human Geography, Örebro University, Sweden; Professor of Sociology, University of Huddersfield, UK; and formerly Professor of Gender Studies, Linköping University, and Senior Professor, Gender Studies, Örebro University. He has worked on issues around age, gender, sexuality and violence for many years, and is co-managing editor of Routledge Advances in Feminist Studies and Intersectionality. Matthew Hall is an Associate Professor in Psychology, the British University in Egypt and Ruth Lewis is an Associate Professor in Social Sciences, Northumbria University, UK.
Experiences of Online Violence: Results from the National Child Victim Survey by Laura Mielityinen:
One out of three internet users are children and globally 800 million children use social media. In this session Laura Mielityinen explores online violence from the perspectives of Finnish children and adolescents based on the recent Child Victim Survey.
Laura Mielityinen is a doctoral researcher in social policy at Tampere University. She works as a researcher in the project ACElife which studies adverse childhood experiences across the life span. In her dissertation Mielityinen explores intergenerational physical maltreatment.
