Join new Resilient Communities research initiative under ECIU

The ECIU university Institute for Smart European Regions (SMART-ER) brings Tampere University and 11 other ECIU University member institutions to jointly addres complex societal challenges under the framework of the UN SDG11 (Sustainable cities and communities). As part of this, Raúl Castaño from Tampere University has been appointed to coordinate research theme Resilient Communities. Join the new initiative!

Main goals:

  • Connect with different communities and disseminate their activities both online and physically.
  • Promote collaborations between different stakeholders that aim to address ECIU University needs.
  • Coordinate working groups within the resilient community’s scope
    • Support funding opportunities.
    • Co-coordinate grant applications.
    • Support the development of resilient communities.

Main expected impacts:

  • Facilitating the development of resilient communities through co-creation.
  • Promoting social health and social capital.
  • Citizen participation.
  • Trade-off between resilience and equity and justice (e.g., resilience for WHO?).
  • Support current/future transition for resilient communities.

ECIU SMART-ER

The ECIU University Research Institute for Smart European Regions (SMART-ER) is a research, innovation and education strong alliance started in 2021. The SMART-ER is a new model of research and innovation, based on a virtual collaborative environment. This includes SEED-Programme, mobility fund, SMART-ER Academy courses for researchers and PHD students, citizen science pilot projects and community building.

SMART-ER focuses on four themes: 1) Energy and sustainability, 2) Circular economy, 3) Transport and mobility and 4) Resilient communities. Learn more on ECIU website.
