TURNS  – Tampere Urban Research Network for Sustainability

TURNS is an interdisciplinary network of urban research. TURNS’s mission is to strengthen cooperation between Tampere-based researchers, participate in the development of multidisciplinary urban research, compile an interdisciplinary strategic group for urban research and to create a national and internationally recognizable brand for urban research in Tampere. Interested researchers from all fields are welcome to join us!

Democracy Research Network

Democracy is not a comprehensive, self-defining, or static idea. Its meaning evolves as it travels through different political, cultural, disciplinary, and personal boundaries. The aim of the Democracy Research Network is exactly to discuss its different meanings, learn and share the different ways in which scholars across Tampere University are engaging with democracy in their research, and strengthen the collaboration between researchers working on this field. Interested researchers are welcome to join!

SMART-ER/ECIU university

The ECIU University Research Institute for Smart European Regions (SMART-ER) is a research, innovation and education strong alliance, enabling all 12 ECIU University member institutions (including Tampere University) to jointly address complex societal challenges under the framework of the UN SDG11 (Sustainable cities and communities). The SMART-ER is a new model of research and innovation, based on a virtual collaborative environment. Take a look at research group map, seed-programme, mobility fund, SMART-ER Academy courses for researchers and PHD students, citizen science pilot projects and join the community.

SMART-ER focuses on four themes:

  • Energy and sustainability

  • Circular economy

  • Transport and mobility

  • Resilient communities

Resilient communities theme is coordinated by Raúl Castaño at Tampere University. See the website for more information and join.
