Welcome to a guest lecture on Coexistence in the city, that will take place on 21st September 2023. Dr. Sergio Caggiano's lecture is titled "Migrations, coexistence, and conflict in a heterogeneous peri-urban space (La Plata, Argentina)". The event is held in the Linna building, room K113, at 13:00-14:30.

Dr. Caggiano is Director of the Centre for Social Research (CIS) – National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) – Institute for Economic and Social Development (IDES) and an independent researcher for CONICET at the CIS, Buenos Aires. He is a professor in Communication at the Faculty of Journalism and Social Communication of the National University of La Plata (UNLP). He teaches postgraduate courses at several universities in Argentina. He holds a PhD in Social Sciences (National University of General Sarmiento). He was a postdoctoral fellow in Berlin as a researcher for the desiguALdades.net network (Latin American Institute of the Free University and Ibero-American Institute) between 2011 and 2013. He has conducted research on migration, interculturality, discrimination and rights for CONICET, the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), CLASPO (University of Texas, Austin), UNICEF and the National University of La Plata. He specialises in the study of imaginaries and social representations, hegemony and cultural disputes, with an emphasis on the role of visual images. The results of his research have been published in books and articles in national and international journals.

Dr. Caggiano’s talk is organised by the STUE profiling area and the EmergentCommunity project that hosts his research visit at the Tampere University.
