Postponed to Spring 2022: AGEING CITY seminar

AGEING CITY seminar December 16th-17th.

Increasing life expectancy means that a long life is becoming reality for an increasing number of people. A parallel development to longevity is our increasing tendency to live, gather, and work in urban environments. How can we create a sustainable age friendly city? Tampere university’s research community STUE – Sustainable Transformation of Urban Environments invites you to discuss and develop solutions and visions.

Update on 31.3.2021: The new dates (16.-17.5.2022) and seminar programme have been released. Take a look and sign up by 5.5.2022.

Update on 2.12.2021: Due to COVID19 situation in Pirkanmaa AGEING CITY seminar will be postponed to Spring 2022, when we will hopefully be able to meet F2F safely. Seminar dates will be set and registration reopened in 2022. We hope to see you next Spring!

Longevity has two-fold implications for urban development. First, cities need to accommodate their structures, and housing, transport, and service systems to an increasing share of older adults that reside, work, consume, and move about in an urban environment. Second, cities need to cater for the long lives that individuals live in the urban environment, and ensure, that the structures flexibly respond to the changing needs and preferences across the life course.

AGEING CITY seminar brings stakeholders, developers, service providers and researchers together around the topic of sustainable age friendly city. The seminar consists of two half-day long parts:

1. On the first seminar day we will focus on developing visions for sustainable aging city as a joined effort of stakeholders, developers, service providers and researchers. This half day seminar starts with lunch, followed by short inspirational talks and thought-provoking workshop. Speakers TBC.

2. On the second seminar day we will focus on discussing and developing new research to support sustainable aging city. This half day seminar offers inspirational talks followed by though-provoking workshop. Speakers TBC.

You are welcome to participate either the whole seminar or just one day. The seminar is free of charge. It is bilingual: English and Finnish. Due to COVID19 situation in Pirkanmaa AGEING CITY seminar will be postponed to Spring 2022, when we will hopefully be able to meet F2F safely. Seminar dates will be set and registration reopened in January/February 2022.
