Participant privacy in scientific publications

Results are reported in scientific publications, for which data excerpts are processed to prevent identification. Screenshots from the videos are displayed as black-and-white line drawings to protect participants’ identities. Pseudonyms (made-up names) are used for participants, and any other identifying details, such as place names, are removed or altered.

A confidentiality agreement is made with the graphic designer creating the line drawings. Any transcription of the research material is also conducted securely, and transcribers are bound by a confidentiality agreement regarding the data.
