There’s a story that’s often told at Toastmasters clubs around the world. It’s about someone who stood up to speak for the first time, nervous, uncertain, barely able to make it through their words. Fast forward a year or two in Toastmasters, and that same person is looking for opportunities to speak in public, doing it confidently and clearly.
Why do we share this story so often? Because it’s the story of many Toastmaster members and it captures what Toastmasters is all about: building the confidence and skills to express yourself effectively in any situation.
So, what is Toastmasters exactly? When you mention “Toastmasters,” people usually react in one of two ways: “Oh yes, there’s one in my home country!” or “Wait… Toastmasters? Is that about giving toasts?” We get that a lot! Actually, Toastmasters is a non profit international organization (with clubs in over 140 countries!) dedicated to helping people improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills. And no, we don’t spend our time making toasts, we help people speak up and speak well.
Here at Tampere Toastmasters, we are a diverse, international, and supportive group of people who encourage each other to grow. Everyone comes with their own story and their own reasons for joining. Some want to overcome stage fright. Others want to lead meetings, ace job interviews, improve their English, or simply meet new people and have meaningful conversations.
Whatever your motivation, you’ll find a space where you are welcomed, supported, and celebrated. We believe Toastmasters can be a great space for all hidden gems building a life here in Tampere. At our club, you can:

We meet every second Thursday at 18:00 in the Platform 6 building. You can find more information about our club in our FAQ. We would love for you to visit a meeting and see for yourself what it’s like. There’s no pressure to speak right away, just come, listen, and feel the vibe!
