Starting in August 2021, our participants will begin their journey into the Finnish society in a programme designed for international spouses. The programme aims to empower spouses in their integration into the Finnish society as well as give them the tools to become the actors of their own success.
For a period of four months, we commit to providing services related to networking, mentoring and professional development. The group meets on a weekly basis and attends various workshops. In the programme, we practise networking skills and career planning skills. We also offer an opportunity to take part in a mentoring programme. Moreover, there is a Finnish course and a career coaching service available to the participants.
Networking
Provide a safe environment for the participants to build and cultivate a set of social and professional connections in Finland. The aim is to activate the participants in increasing diverse social networks as a valuable source of peer support, professional contacts and information on job leads.
Mentoring
Encourage the participants to reflect on their career path options and identify their strengths, skills and abilities as well as define a set of goals in Finland. The aim is to strengthen the participant’s self-esteem and turn their expertise into an asset for the Finnish labour market.
Professional development
Familiarise the participants with options in Finland and new ways to flourish in the Finnish society as well as provide insights on job search and its components. The aim is to establish links between “self” and the Finnish labour market.
The programme is free of charge, however, participation requires commitment to programme activities. You are eligible to apply to the programme if your partner works in one of the Tampere universities or in a private company in Tampere Region.

Future steps
We will first contact you in regard to your application. Please keep an eye on your inbox. Then if you are selected, an expectation management meeting will be held in the end of August. Other activities will start in September.
We follow closely the COVID-19 situation, and if needed, in autumn 2021 parts of the programme may be organised online.
Hidden Gems is an initiative by the Tampere Universities community. Initially it supported the spouses of our international researchers. Recently the activities have been opened to spouses, whose partners work in the private sector, too. Over the years the Hidden Gems initiative has piloted a variety of activities, which aim to facilitate the employment and full integration of expatriate spouses into the Finnish society. In year 2021 a spouse programme and a mentoring programme are among the activities offered.
