Viabundus Finland 1350-1650 database will be published in April 2025.

Viabundus Finland 1350–1650 compiles historical geospatial data on traffic routes and traffic related infrastructure of late medieval and early modern Finland into a an open database and map interface. The outcome of a three-year project will be published in April 2025.

The first publication event will be in Finnish in Museum centre Vapriikki (Tampere) Friday 4 April. More information and registration here (in Finnish).

Online publication event for international audience in English will be organised Friday 25 April. More information coming soon!

The project leader and responsible researcher for Viabundus Finland is Dos. Tapio Salminen (Tampere University and University of Turku). Other researchers are PhD Jenni Lares (Tampere university) and MA Katrina Virtanen (University of Turku). The project management team includes representatives from the Tampere University’s Trivium – Tampere Centre for Classical, Medieval, and Early Modern Studies, University of Turku’s Degree Programme in Cultural Production and Landscape Studies (Pori) and the Finnish Postal Museum (Tampere).

Viabundus Finland is part of the European Viabundus project, founded in 2019 by Institut für Historische Landesforschung (University of Göttingen) and The Research Center for Hanse and Baltic History in Lübeck, Germany. The Finnish project has been funded in 2022-2024 by Kone Foundation.
