SoliPro researchers Ayeshah, Maaro and Riikka participated in the EU Solidarity Projects Meet-up event in Helsinki in early June. EU Solidarity Projects are youth led projects funded by EU with the aim of cultivating a sense of democratic engagement, social responsibility, and active participation among young people. In the internatonal meet-up, the SoliPro researchers were observing how young people, who are engaged in the EU-funded solidarity projects, understand and perform solidarity in practice. In addition, we interviewed some of the participants during the event and contacted others to be interviewed later. The week long conference was interesting (read more in Ayeshah Emon’s blog), and the setting was great. Our participation in the conference was connected to the sub-project of SoliPro, in which we explore how European funding agencies and the young people taking part in their projects conceptualize and embody youth solidarity.
