Often times the most essential assistance for an international talent is to receive sparring and guidance from another individual. Finland can be a tricky country to get started in if you are left all by yourself. If you would like to offer help to an international and to gain new skills and networks at the same time, join the mentoring program and become a mentor!

We are looking for mentors who are:

  • Professionals in their own field
  • Interested in different countries and intercultural communication
  • Working in the private or public sector
  • Fluent in English
  • Working in the Tampere region

Hidden Gems mentoring programme for spouses is run as part of the Hidden Gems programme exclusively for the spouses of international researchers working at one of the Tampere Universities. This may include the University of Tampere, Tampere University of Technology and Tampere University of Applied Sciences. The spouses have followed their partners to Tampere and wish to pursue their own career in the region. The spouses may be from different countries and career backgrounds. The mentors will be paired with two or three mentees for a duration of four months. The Hidden Gems mentoring programme will take place from November to February as part of the Hidden Gems agenda supporting dual-career couples.

Mentoring offers an easy way to develop intercultural competencies and expertise in the global workmarkets. The mentoring programme gives mentors the opportunity to build contacts and develop mentoring skills through practical experience. The mentors will be paired up with international talents who are in the early stages of their careers in Finland.

The Spring 2019 mentoring programme will start in March 2019 and is conducted in English. The mentors are paired up with one or two mentees and they meet face-to-face about five times. In addition, the programme have three official group sessions for all mentors and mentees:

  • Kick-Off Meeting Mon 11 March
  • Mid-Programme Meeting Wed 24 April
  • Wrap-up Meeting Mon 3 June

All group meetings take place in Kampusklubi located in the Tampere University of Technology campus area at 17-20.
