Your child has been selected to take part in a survey focusing on adolescents’ societal attitudes and participation
The EPIC research project at Tampere University is conducting a survey between January and April 2021 among 9th grade pupils across Finland. The study provides important information on adolescents’ societal attitudes and their beliefs regarding their ability to influence political decisions. The research is funded by the Academy of Finland and Svenska kulturfonden.
Your child’s school has granted permission to conduct the survey. If you wish, you may refuse permission for your underage child to take part in the survey by informing the teacher.
4000 pupils across different municipalities and schools in Finland have been selected to be part of the survey. Having your child as part of the survey is important because s/he represents his/her age group, school, and neighbourhood in the survey sample.
The answers of your child are kept confidential
The survey is conducted during one school lesson. Individual responses cannot be identified from the reported research results. The answers of the respondents are not shown to their teachers, school, or parents. Participation in the survey is voluntary.
Participation in a follow-up study
The research is a so-called follow-up study. The survey will be conducted again after two years among those respondents who have given their consent. To contact the respondents in the second round of the study, there is a space to provide their contact information, which will be removed from the data after the second wave of the follow-up study has been conducted in spring 2023.
Data security
The data controller of the research is Tampere University. EPIC research team is responsible for the data collection. Respondents’ privacy is guaranteed by ensuring high level of data protection. The data including personal information will not be stored longer than is necessary to conduct the study.
