The call was open from 1 July to 30 September 2026. It was intended for communities and actors in the Tampere region who want to test and develop local, climate-resilient solutions for mobility, energy and food in Tampere. Interest in the call was high.
– We were delighted by the number and diversity of the applications. They show that there are many residents and communities in the Tampere region who want to take part in building a more sustainable city themselves, says project coordinator Pauliina Lehtonen.
The total amount of funding applied for is approximately EUR 1.3 million, while EUR 180,000 is available for distribution. The applications covered all themes of the call: 25 applications related to food, 14 to mobility and four to energy.
– The applications show how much expertise and creativity city residents have. Many ideas stem from everyday needs and from thinking about how sustainable choices could be made more communal, Lehtonen says.
What happens next?
The applications will be assessed during October and November. Grant decisions will be made in December 2026, and the funded community projects will start no earlier than February 2027. The funded projects will be announced later on the project’s website and social media channels.
– We look forward to seeing the pilots come to life next year and to learning from them together with the communities. The knowledge gained from the pilots is valuable for the project’s research, Lehtonen says.
The grants are awarded by Tampere University, and the funding is part of the Urban Prosumers project’s EU funding (FSTP funding, i.e. financial support to third parties).
During the application period, two information webinars and several coaching sessions were held, where applicants were able to develop their ideas. We thank everyone who took part for the active and inspiring discussions.
