Social Psychology Days 2026: Henri's presentation

Henri Nevalainen

The SHADOW team was featured at the Social Psychology Days 2026 in Tampere, where our researcher Henri Nevalainen presented: “Why Is My Greeting Not Acknowledged? An Experimental Study of Perceived Threat in Workplace Ostracism.”

This year, the Social Psychology Days brought a record number of researchers and professionals to Tampere. The event also celebrated the 60th anniversary of social psychology at Tampere University under the theme “The Boundaries and Societal Impact of Social Psychology”, exploring how scientific knowledge can be used to create change in individuals, groups, organizations, and society more broadly.

In his presentation, Henri Nevalainen examined how people interpret subtle forms of workplace ostracism, such as colleagues ignoring a greeting, and how these situations come to be perceived as socially threatening. Using experimental video vignettes inspired by conversation analysis, the study explored how gender, workplace status, and interactional context shape evaluations of ambiguous social situations.

The SHADOW project would like to thank Henri for his engaging presentation, as well as the organizers and all participants for the inspiring discussions!
