Background
Technology is transforming who we are and how we feel about ourselves. These changes are likely to vary depending on cultural and national contexts. In the age of artificial intelligence, technologies play a central role in many life activities and they impact ways in which we see ourselves and others. The Self and Technology GE -6 project is grounded on social psychological theories on identity, self-determination and self-verification.
Goal
Self & Technology GE-6 research broadens the scope of the Self and Tech project and aims to analyze how emerging technologies affect the perception people have of themselves and their identities and how people across continents and in different countries differ from each other.
Impact
The findings advance our understanding of how people perceive themselves and their identities in relation to technology use, while exploring country and cultural differences in these relationships on a large scale. The research also provides new information about the use of novel technologies as an integral part of individuals’ life in contemporary societies.
The research contributes to theory by providing multidisciplinary findings to multiple research fields (e.g. social psychology, occupational psychology, behavioral science, information technology).
Partners and co-operators
The project is part of the Emerging Technologies Lab at Tampere University.
