The article “From democracy to managerialism: foundation universities as the embodiment of Finnish university policies” has been written by Mikko Poutanen (POSTCAPE) together with Tuukka Tomperi, Hanna Kuusela, Veera Kaleva and Tuomas Tervamäki. It illustrates how the concept of “strategic management” has informed the reconceptualization of Finnish higher education in legislation (nationally) as well as in practice (locally) and has been used to drive through specific administrative reconfigurations. The authors refer to this as “anti-democratic transformation”, which is embodied in a new institutional model: foundation universities. The article can be accessed through this link.
New publication on de-democratization of the university
A new article with POSTCAPE contribution has been published in the Journal of Education Policy. The article examines and details, in the Finnish context, how the introduction of strategic management has led to a significant de-democratisation of the university organisations.
