Henni Alava (she/her) is an Academy Research Fellow and Docent in Anthropology at Tampere University. As PI of the Parenting pain project, she combines autoethnography with medical anthropology, STS, disability studies, and feminist motherhood studies to examine the structural, cultural, and social dynamics that shape the pathways of children’s and adolescents’ pain and its care. With Anna Ovaska, she co-convenes the PainReaders – an interdisciplinary reading group for researchers interested in pain. You can read more about Henni’s earlier research here.
Katriina Huttunen
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Katrinna Huttunen (she/her) is a sociologist, science and technology studies scholar and development studies scholar. In Parenting Pain, Katriina focuses on how the brain is understood and enacted in the clinical care of pediatric persistent pain. Her earlier work includes ethnographic research on vaccine development and qualitative research on new genomic technologies in the context of plant production. Katriina also works in the ReproTime project at the University of Lapland, where she studies novel technologies, particularly AI-drive tools, in assisted reproduction.
Ahalya Ganesh
Project Coordinator
Ahalya Ganesh (they/them) is the project coordinator for Parenting Pain. Their love of organization and their doctoral research about fibromyalgia allows Ahalya to inhabit a dual role of sorts at Parenting Pain— administrative and research support.
