Parenting Pain: An ethnography of persistent pain and its care in Finland

Tracing families' pathways through persistent pain and its care

Ethnographic research with children living with persistent pain, their families and clinicians treating them, to analyze:
– how prolonged pain affects the everyday lives of families living in Finland and how they maintain hope amid suffering
– how meanings and management of pain is negotiated in clinical encounters
– how gender, race and class, and perceptions of them, shape trajectories of pain and its care.
