The aim of the research project NOW! is to channel the environmental anxiety of young people into wellbeing through environmental-political agency. The project is implemented at Tampere University (Tampere, Finland) in years 2020-2023 and it is funded by Kone Foundation.

The multidisciplinary action research examines the relationship between adventurous, experiential nature experiences and young people’s desire and capacity to act for the environment, and the importance that such action has for them and for society at large.

In addition to scholarly publications, the NOW! collective in collaboration with young co-researchers and youth professionals develops practical tools and means for environmental agency for 12-16 year olds. These tools will be used in school camps that Finnish Youth Centers will offer nationwide to the 6th-9th graders.

The results of the study will also be used to create a multidisciplinary environmental-politically oriented adventure education course for Tampere University.
