The GenDis project at the Reframing Endometriosis conference in Birmingham, July 2023

Our project’s postdoctoral research fellow, Maria Temmes, was invited to participate in the conference Reframing Endometriosis: Power, Politics, and Political Futures organized at the Birmingham City University on 6–7 July, 2023. She was part of a panel “Reframing social and biomedical divides” together with Professor Andrew Horne (University of Edinburgh), Lone Hummelshoj (Founder of Endometriosis.org) and Dr Sharon Dixon (University of Oxford). The panel considered, for example, what kinds of silos still exist in the management of endometriosis and how further collaboration could be supported. The panel was moderated by Dr Andrea Ford (University of Edinburgh).

The conference aimed to bring “together UK and international endometriosis social science and humanities researchers alongside, and in conversation with, prominent (bio)medical researchers, third sector representatives and independent researchers and authors.” (See the full list of participants here).  The interdisciplinary panels facilitated diverse and multidisciplinary discussions, which hopefully continue in the future.

We would like to thank the organizers Dr Annalise Weckesser, Dr Véronique Griffith and Dr Andrea Ford for their efforts in creating such an inclusive and informative event!
