Oksanen, A. & Lahtinen, J. (2025). AI-Generated Art Perception: A Population Study. Leonardo, https://doi.org/10.1162/LEON.a.2664.
In this study, we combine an experimental design with longitudinal population data to understand how people react to AI-generated art and how those reactions connect to broader attitudes toward AI in the arts over time.
Results from a population sample from Finland show mixed feelings toward AI art, with stronger support for humanโAI collaboration than fully autonomous AI creativity. How AI art is framed really matters: it shapes how people understand the work. Our findings point to the importance of artist-oriented approaches where human creativity remains essential.
