ECER 2026 Has Made Its Mark at Tampere University
The European Conference on Educational Research (ECER) 2026, organised by the European Educational Research Association (EERA), was held at Tampere University from 18 to 21 August 2026. The conference brought together over 3700 researchers and educators from around the world to share research, exchange ideas, and connect with colleagues.
This year’s theme, “Knowing and Acting: The changing conditions and potentials of education research,” focused on how education research is changing and how knowledge can respond to the challenges of today’s world.
The “(Un)Making Knowledge: Students’ relationship with knowledge from Modernity to AI” research project made presence at ECER 2026 on 20 August as part of a panel discussion. Representing the project, Prof. Johanna Annala, Dr. Alexandra Urakova, Associate Prof. Juliene Madureira Ferreira, and Dr. Vesna Holubek presented their proposal for rethinking Educational Knowledge in Higher Education. Drawing on the sociology of education, cultural history, and cognitive sciences, the proposal puts forward an interdisciplinary framework for analyzing educational knowledge that addresses its institutional organization (structures), normative directionality (orientation), and embodied enactment (sensemaking).
The participation in ECER provided an opportunity for the group to connect their reflections with other topical discussions on the changing conditions of educational research and knowledge and give visibility to the project within a broader international community.
