Ultrafast all-optical timekeeping system beyond modern technologies

Extremely precise and reliable timekeeping is crucial for present and near future technologies used in data centers, navigation, aviation / aerospace, telecommunications, high performance computing, and many more.

The TIMEKEEPER project is set to redefine the future of timekeeping by leveraging epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) metamaterials to achieve femtosecond precision.

Our all-optical solution is designed to ensure ultra-precise and stable synchronization, minimize the use of expensive electronic components, and significantly reduce drift.

Our origin is in the aQUARiUM project supported by the European Research Council (ERC) and a Proof-of-Concept grant from ERC. We are supported by Business Finland’s Research to Business (R2B) program.

From conventional electronic approach to all-optical solutions with novel metasurfaces

The developed all-optical time interpolation toolkit will enable extremely high precision of time events at femtosecond scale using ultra-low power and exclude the high-speed electronics and high-temperature complications.
