Academics and artists examine migration and politics of sexuality

“Making Spaces of Justice Across the East-West Divide” is a Finnish-Russian research project on
1) migration and multiculturalism and
2) politics of sexuality and gender.

Its aim is to explore how notions of social justice and equality are articulated in the context of these topical and pressing societal concerns.

Academic scholars, artists and activists work together to analyze and develop strategies to change the destructive power relations that produce and perpetuate sexual, gender, class and ethnic discrimination and exclusion.

Migration and multiculturalism and politics of sexuality and gender are approached as societal issues shared across the East-West divide.

Through joint research, debate, and art making, the project

  • responds to the demand to think and look creatively, analytically and critically at migration and politics of sexuality;
  • seeks to enrich concrete practices relating to migration and politics of sexuality both in Finland and in Russia.

The project is funded by the Kone Foundation.
