Our research team had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Dorien Van De Mieroop from the Catholic University of Leuven to Tampere University in late October. As a visiting lecturer, Dorien presented the findings of the research article Depicting Story Evaluation Through Epistemics and Deontics: Constructing Status-Stance Relations in Direct Reported Speech, which was written in collaboration with members of our project team. She also held a course titled Narrative and Identity, which our team attended. During the course, we analyzed materials related to our research project and drew on Dorien’s extensive expertise in the linguistic construction of identity in interactional contexts. Dorien also participated in our data session, where we reviewed Minna Leinonen’s research material.
In addition to her work, Dorien had the opportunity to experience the sitsit tradition of social psychology students in Tampere, and we concluded her visit with a dinner at the restaurant Lillan Kök.
