Mianna Meskus
PI
Mianna Meskus is Professor of Sociology at Tampere University. She is also the Director of Tampere Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Studies (TaSTI). Her research is situated at the intersection of sociology and feminist science and technology studies, with specific focus on biopolitics, knowledge production, embodiment, and materiality. Recently, she has been working on speculative futures in biomedical shaping of reproduction and ageing, the processuality of ‘sex’ in biomedical research, and the emergence of alternative research methods in animal experimentation.
Marianne Mäkelin
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Marianne Mäkelin is a Doctor of Social Sciences who works across science and technology studies and environmental sociology. She is interested in the themes of time, sensing as an embodied and technologically mediated practice, and human-non-human relations. Her research has explored the topics of genetically modified mosquitoes in malaria control, AI and data literacy, and non-animal methods in biosciences.
Emilia Tikka
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Emilia Tikka is a Doctor of Arts who works across design research, science and technology studies, and anthropology. She is interested in human relations with nature(s), science, and technology in the Arctic region. In her work, she develops the co-creating of future imaginaries as an intercosmological research method, enabling dialogue between knowledge cultures and ways of being. In her previous work, Tikka collaborated with an epigeneticist and a Sámi reindeer herder. She has also worked on the topics of genetic engineering, human aging, and futures of reproduction.
Johanna Ervast
Research Assistant
Johanna Ervast is a nearly graduated Master of Social Sciences, specializing in sociology. She is interested in more-than-human relationships, the philosophy of nature, and how embodied and multisensory experiences shape the ways we produce knowledge about the world around us.
