The modern world is experiencing a profound crisis of security and international legal order. Violations of the rules-based world order, the escalation of armed conflicts, and the rise of geopolitical tensions demonstrate that peace is no longer a guaranteed value even for stable regions.

Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine has become a challenge not only for Ukrainian statehood but also for the entire system of European peace but has impacts on global security. Russia creates long-term security risks for neighboring countries, in particular for Georgia and Moldova, but also Baltic States, Finland and other states in the region.  At the same time, the consequences of the war are felt by countries across Europe and beyond – through migration processes, economic instability, energy and food crises.

In these conditions, the issue of peacebuilding is more relevant than ever. However, it is not only about new interstate agreements or mechanisms of collective security. Sustainable peace is also formed at the level of communities, local self-government, civil society, and the education system. In this context, the development of Peace Education acquires particular importance, aimed at fostering a culture of nonviolence, critical thinking, dialogue, mutual respect, and social cohesion.

The editorial board of Sociological Studios announces a call for scholarly articles for a thematic issue dedicated to peacebuilding, particularly in the following areas:

  • New paradigms of peacebuilding in global and regional dimensions;
  • Institutional mechanisms of peace support;
  • Local peacebuilding responses to inter-state war;
  • Conflict transformation and post–conflict reconstruction;
  • Challenges of education in fostering a culture of peace;
  • Peace education as peacebuilding;
  • Politics of memory, reconciliation, and societal resilience.

We invite contributors to submit abstracts for the Special Issue of Sociological Studios (SS). We welcome scholars, researchers, and practitioners in the fields of education, international relations, law, sociology, political science, and related disciplines. We are convinced that interdisciplinary academic dialogue will contribute to the development of new approaches to building a just and lasting peace in the context of contemporary global challenges.

If you are interested in participating, please send your abstracts to prospective Guest Editor-in-Chief MARKO LEHTI (marko.lehti@tuni.fi), Co-Guest-Editor ANUSH PETROSYAN (anush.petrosyan@tuni.fi), and Editor-in-Chief SVITLANA SALNIKOVA (sv.salnikova@knu.ua), Executive Secretary OLENA MURADYAN (sociostudios@knu.ua) before the submission deadline. The abstract should be of up to 250 words and include author(s) details.

We look forward to collaborating with you and advancing our research together.

Sincerely,

Editorial Board of the Sociological Studios
