About me
I am professor of social policy at Tampere University. I have a title of docent in social and public policy at the University of Eastern Finland. I am Principal Investigator of the Challenges of Tackling Digital Violence Against Women in Police Work, Crime Process and Support Services research project (DIGNITEAS, Government’s analysis, assessment and research activities 2022-2023), Principal Investigator and vice director of the Encountering and addressing digital violence in social services and health care research project (DigiSOS STM VTR 2023-2025), Principal Investigator in the WP5, Policy recommendations, in Innovative Solutions to Eliminate Domestic Abuse project (ISEDA, HORIZON-CL3-2021-FCT-0, 2022-2025). Recent years I have been the director of ERASE GBV Education and Raising Awareness in Schools to Prevent and Encounter Gender-Based Violence -EU project (Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme, 2020-2022). My other recent research projects include Coronavirus Epidemic in Experiences of Domestic Violence and the Use of Services Tampere University research group (KOVÄ, Parliament of Finland 2020-2021) and Encountering Domestic Violence and Multi-Professional Cooperation among the Police and Social and Health Care Professionals (European Commission, JUST/2016/ RGEN/AG/VAWA) research group.
I have acted as either the director or deputy director of several research projects including topics such as Professional Practices and Occupational Health in Social and Health Care Sector (2011-2014 Emil Aaltonen Foundation), Encountering Violence in Social and Health Care Organizations (2011-2014 Academy of Finland), Agency, Care and Social Suffering (2008-2010 Academy of Finland), Violence Intervention in the Specialist Health Care (2009-2010 EU Daphne III programme) and Capabilities, Institutions, Dispositions and Power in Developed Societies (2006-2008 Academy of Finland).
My research interests deal with care work, the welfare service system, intersectional violence, vulnerability, social security, gendered agency, feminist theory and affect. My recent publications consider e.g. welfare service work, encountering and intervening violence in social and health care institutions, the challenges of ideological, institutional and affective practices in violence intervention, and the possibilities of sustainable wellbeing.

About me
Eija Paavilainen, PhD, works as a Professor (Nursing Science) at Faculty of Social Sciences/Health Sciences in University of Tampere, from 2001. She has also a research position in Etelä-Pohjanmaa Hospital District, from 2002. Her main research and expertise areas concern families with children in challenging life situations. Her largest research projects concern family violence, child maltreatment, and family risks, and care services for families with children. Those research projects are or have been funded by Academy of Finland, Boards of Hospital Districts, Ministry for Social Affairs and Health, Finland, and European Union (ERICA PROJECT 2019-2021). She has over 200 conference presentations and over 200 scientific and other publications. She has acted in Editorial Board of Child Abuse Review during 2012-2017.

Her main research interests include the reconciliation of work and family, family policy, social services, cash-for-care schemes, early childhood education, intra-household finances, poverty and time-use of families. She is one of the editors of the following books: Cash-for-Childcare: The Consequences for Caring Mothers (Edward Elgar, 2010), Women, Men and Children in Families: Private Troubles and Public Issues (Tampere University Press, 2013), Media, Family Interaction and the Digitalization of Childhood (Edward Elgar, 2017) and Politics of Childcare and Early Childhood Education: Does Equal Access Matter?
