The Irish Association for Cancer Research (IACR) is an all-Ireland, non-profit organisation which brings together cancer researchers and healthcare professionals from all disciplines to share their expertise. The 58th annual conference was held in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone, Co. Westmeath, Ireland from Wednesday 22nd to Friday 24th of February. The conference was a multistage conference with concurrent presentations covering topics from the latest advances in the field of cancer research spanning from conventional treatments to more innovative approaches and supportive care for life after treatment.
Our poster, presented by Grace Phillips, Genomic Competencies for Healthcare Professionals: A Systematic Review, was selected to be included in the biomedical poster session at 2pm on Thursday 23rd of February.
Adjudicators were interested in the study; it was the first time many had seen a study including all the genetic/genomic competency frameworks published to date.
One delegate highlighted that this study was being carried out at a key time, as the Health Service Executive Ireland launched the National Strategy for Accelerating Genetics and Genomic Medicine in Ireland in December 2022. The purpose of the strategy is to enhance Ireland’s Genetics and Genomics service by having a single national strategy and implementation framework encompassing care provided across acute, primary and community settings and spanning all ages.
Overall, the poster was well received by both adjudicators and conference delegates.
