Research group
Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) is the only European group with leading fabrication expertise across all key materials used in optoelectronics, i.e. GaAs, InP, and GaSb material systems. The group has been at the frontier of optoelectronics research in Finland and Europe for more than 30 years, capitalizing on an outstanding range of fabrication processes and characterization expertise.
Research infrastructure
Essential to the success of ORC is the operation of 3 MBE reactors (for synthesis of GaAs-, InP-, and GaSb-based compounds) and complete optoelectronic device processing and characterization lines, including state-of-the-art equipment for coatings, metallization, and lithography, as well as static, spectral, and high-speed modulation characterization. TAU has made significant investment in directly supporting infrastructure related to photonics research and material science in general. The entire infrastructure at TAU related to photonics and advanced lean-room environments (class ISO5 and ISO7) is part of the FinnLight National Infrastructure (https://finnlight.fi), which enables access to a comprehensive combination of technologies covering all classes of photonics materials and process lines for device fabrication. It also offers state-of-the-art possibilities for material investigations at nanoscale.
