Research outputs and activities of the Supervisor

Research group

The Applied Optics research group develops novel sensing consepts like integrated chip-scale sensors. Hybrid integration of light sources, waveguides, active components, and detectors allows real-world sensing applications e.g. in environmental monitoring, industrial safety, and non-invasive medical diagnostics in a small form factor. With novel photonics components and optical spectroscopy methodologies, we develop solutions capable of identifying and quantifying analytes in gas, liquid or solid phase.

Research infrastructure

FinnLight FIRI infrastructure including Tampere University photonics laboratories and cleanrooms. System-in-Package Fabrication (SiPFAB) pilot line focusing on hybrid integration and packaging. Optical laboratories for optical chip testing from UV to IR wavelengths, lasers (CW, ns, fs) and various spectrometers and sensing instruments.
