Disrupted Waste Flows in a Broken World: A Critical Ethnography of the Circular Economy

DECAY examines our contemporary trashscapes beyond the utopian fantasy of the eternal redemption of waste as value. Its general aim is to critically scrutinise the circular economy.

Through more-than-human ethnography, the project sheds light on the leaky realities of waste by following the journeys of trash in and through different stages of its social life.

Ultimately, the project will increase our understanding of the crucial role that mundane practices of patching up and tinkering play in the everyday constitution of the circular economy.
