Transnational Flows
The Impact of Transatlantic Conservative Networks on Finnish and EU Environmental, Health and Social Policies
Transnational Flows investigates the networks, institutions, and actors shaping EU and Finnish policymaking. From climate change and gender equality, to broader health and social policies, these issues, increasingly framed as “national sovereignty” concerns, are part of a transatlantic conservative agenda seeking to undermine democratic governance.
Our research explores: 1) who the key foreign actors are, their transatlantic links, and how they influence EU policies; 2) what thematic areas are targeted and the strategies used to erode democratic decision-making; and 3) how historical opposition movements connect to today’s conservative policy agenda.
Combining policy analysis, process tracing, and historical research, our dynamic interdisciplinary research team comprised of young emerging scholars—spanning political science, gender studies, health sciences, and critical theory—offers a novel approach to understanding these global power dynamics.
