The RETAKE Project Has Started – Towards a Take-Back Model in Construction

“Why profit from your building product only once, if it is designed to last?”

The construction sector consumes over half of the world’s virgin raw materials and a huge amount of energy. The RETAKE project is here to find solutions to this challenge.

The project develops a take-back model, where manufacturers commit to taking back their products. Once returned, the product can be refurbished and resold. This makes products and customer relationships long-lasting while reducing energy consumption and the need for raw materials. The take-back model also creates new business opportunities that combine profitability with responsibility.

The RETAKE project is carried out in collaboration with various construction industry actors. The shared goal is to find practical ways to implement the take-back model as part of existing business practices in the construction sector.

In the initial phase, the project will map out the potential of the business model, as well as the barriers and conditions for its adoption. At least 30 companies will take part in the project’s co-creation activities. Later on, the aim is to identify pilot cases where the take-back model can be tested in practice.

We are now looking for construction companies interested in co-developing new, sustainable business models and building solutions for the circular economy.
