Genetic Counsellor Appreciation Day – November 13, 2025

Genetic Counsellor Appreciation Day – November 13, 2025

Today we celebrate genetic counsellors across the Nordic region and around the world – professionals who play a vital role in bridging genetics, ethics, and patient care.

Genetic counsellors support individuals and families in navigating complex genetic information, interpreting test results, and making informed decisions. In the Nordic countries, they contribute to clinical care, research, education, and policy – working collaboratively across borders to ensure high-quality and equitable genetic counselling services.

As genomic technologies become increasingly integrated into healthcare, the demand for skilled genetic counsellors is growing. The future holds exciting opportunities in predictive medicine, population screening, and digital counselling – but also challenges in ensuring ethical, inclusive, and patient-centered care.

Education and training are key. We need more Nordic training programs, strong professional networks, and policy support to ensure genetic counselling remains accessible and highly specialized. Professional recognition is also essential – acknowledging the unique expertise and contributions of genetic counsellors helps strengthen the field and attract future talent.

Thank you to all genetic counsellors for your empathy, expertise, and dedication. You make a difference – every day.
