The kick-off seminar took place on Friday 6 February with two keynote speakers and the presentations by the project’s research team.
The Academy Research Fellow Taija Kaarlenkaski (University of Eastern Finland) presented her research about the human-cattle relationship and the history of Finnish dairy farming. Following this, professor of production animal medicine Anna Valros (University of Helsinki) talked about the welfare and the conduct of pigs based on her studies with sows. After the keynote lectures Marja Jalava, Olli Turunen and Petteri Norring introduced the project and discussed the various analytical aspects of meat complex – such as the political economy of meat, knowledge and science, and the co-constitution of humans and pigs through multispecies practices.
The team would like to thank the keynote speakers as well as the audience for the successful event!
