The Pirkanmaa Creative Industries Innovation Portfolio project strengthens the systematic development of the region’s cultural and creative industries and creates a tool for managing systemic change. The project will also establish a new Pirkanmaa Creative Industries Advisory Board.
The region lacks a common cultural strategy and a shared vision of the needs of the sector. The fragmentation of the sector, the lack of resources among small operators, and poor knowledge of RDI mechanisms have slowed down development and the acquisition of external funding. The project will strengthen RDI expertise in the sector and improve the ability of operators to take advantage of funding opportunities.
The work is based on Sitra’s thinking on innovation activities that support society’s ability to function. The innovation portfolio provides a more comprehensive picture of the current state of the creative industries, the need for change, and development measures, and improves the effectiveness and coordination of cooperation. The focus is particularly on development-oriented organizations and companies.
The portfolio is built on the active network of actors created in previous projects. At the same time, a model for a creative industries advisory board will be piloted, which would serve as a regional counterpart to the national advisory board and support the implementation of the creative industries growth strategy in Pirkanmaa.
The project’s target groups are companies, organizations, and freelancers in the cultural and creative sectors, municipal cultural actors, and producers of tourism and experience services. Indirect target groups include universities, development organizations, and startup communities. The project will strengthen Pirkanmaa’s appeal and retention power, increase RDI expertise, and promote internationalization.
