Multiple researchers linked to Future of Gambling research project were present at The Annual Finnish Social Psychology Conference 2026 which was held in Tampere University on May 7–8, 2026. Two researchers, Heli Hagfors and Teijo Osma, had presentations that were based on data from the project, whereas Sari Hautamäki and Anu Sirola used other data in their presentations. Hagfors presented a cross-national study of 12 countries that examined how participation in online gambling websites and identification with other online gamblers create risk factors for problematic gambling. Osma’s presentation covered the role that virtual communities have on the association between escapism and problematic gaming.
