eTraining FinPal project was presented in the 32nd annual conference of the Consortium of Higher Education Researchers (CHER) held on 28-30 August 2019. The conference was organised by the International Centre for Higher Education Research Kassel (INCHER-Kassel) and the Consortium of Higher Education Researchers (CHER) at the University of Kassel, Germany. Founded in 1988, the Consortium organises an annual conference to discuss the developments in higher education and higher education research.
The theme of CHER 2019 was “Theories and Methods in Higher Education Research”. The conference gathered around 200 participants from more than 30 countries including Australia, China, South Africa, Canada and USA. Five conference tracks included 150 presentations related to theoretical and methodological perspectives in higher education research.
FinPal researchers Nazmi AlMasri, Vesa Korhonen, Pauliina Alenius and Vesna Holubek held a presentation on higher education in Palestinian Territories in the session entitled Academic Work. The authors talked about the Palestinian higher education system and the societal circumstances in which the Palestinian higher education institutions operate. Preliminary findings of the ongoing study were also presented; the authors explored the cultures of teaching and learning in Palestinian higher education by using the theoretical framework of Teaching and Learning Regimes developed by Paul Trowler and colleagues (Trowler & Cooper, 2002).
The Finnish-Palestinian project team met for the first time in person during the conference in Germany. The stimulating conference sessions and networking events were a great opportunity for the FinPal team to discuss the ongoing and prospective future cooperation.
