We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher (with 50% Postdoctoral duties and 50% coordinator duties)

Postdoctoral Researcher (Gender Studies; Gender and the European Union; Gender and Politics Research)

Our project “Gender, party politics and democracy in Europe: A study of European Parliament’s party groups” (EUGenDem) at the Tampere University will run from August 2018 – July 2023 and is directed by Professor Johanna Kantola. It is funded by European Research Council (ERC-Consolidator Grant 2017). The project provides a systematic analysis of the gendered policies and practices of European party politics. The research comprises a comparative study of the European Parliament’s (EP) party groups and generates empirical findings about the significance of gender in the current party political transformations in Europe. The project EUGenDem is conducted in Gender Studies, at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Tampere University. Tampere University is an internationally renowned research-led university and one of the few in the world to specialize in social sciences.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The postdoctoral researcher will study the European Parliament’s political groups’ policies on the European Pillar of Social Rights from a gender equality perspective. The postdoctoral researcher’s duties include qualitative data gathering and analysis, high level academic publishing, participation in regular team meetings and presenting research at seminars and academic conferences.

50 percent of the job involves being a project coordinator. Duties of the project coordinator involve scientific reporting about the project, organizing project events, social media and other external communications, organizing the internal work of the project, and data management.

REQUIREMENTS

The candidate to the position of postdoctoral researcher must hold a PhD degree in a relevant field. Research experience in the European Union; gender and politics; and social policy are an asset. The candidate must have the ability to conduct independent scientific research. The candidate should have excellent analytical and methodological skills and be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary scientific community. The candidate must have strong coordination skills, and previous experience in project management/coordination or similar tasks is an asset. The successful candidates are expected to have excellent skills in written and oral English. Skills in Finnish or Swedish are not required.

WE OFFER

The position is fulltime and will be filled for a fixed-term period of 3 years. The appointment is expected to start on 1 August 2019 or as mutually agreed. Trial period of six (6) months applies to all new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, for a Postdoctoral Researcher, an approximate salary of is 3300-3600 EUR/month.
