EUGenDem virtual workshop: Gender and Leadership in the European Parliament at Midterm

The second EUGenDem virtual workshop of 2022 took place on 11 March.

Gender and leadership are important for representation, legitimacy, and agency. New EP President Roberta Metsola, the third woman to hold the post, was elected in January 2022, as part of the midterm reshuffle of top posts in the European Parliament. In this workshop, we look more systematically at gender and leadership in the European Parliament to assess what is the picture of gender and leadership in the European Parliament and why it matters. The workshop draws together the findings of a new book edited by Henriette Müller (NYU Abu Dhabi) and Ingeborg Tömmel (University of Osnabrück): Women and Leadership in the European Union, published with Oxford University Press (2022).

Chair: Cherry Miller (Tampere University, Finland)

Speakers:
Henriette Müller (NYU Abu Dhabi, UAE): Women and Leadership in the European Union: Trends, Patterns, and Performances

Sarah Dingler (University of Innsbruck, Austria) and Jessica-Fortin Rittberger (University of Salzburg, Austria): Women’s Leadership in the European Parliament: A Long-Term Perspective

Johanna Kantola and Cherry Miller (Tampere University, Finland): Gendered Leadership in the European Parliament’s Political Groups

Time: March 11th, 2022, at 11:00-12:30 EET (10:00-11:30 CET)
