Accessibility in digital services - online seminar

How do equality and accessibility function in information and communication technology and digital services? This will be discussed in the seminar organised by Fiinnish National Library on Monday 28 November 2022.

The leader of the DIG1t0 project Jaana Parviainen has been invited to the event to give a speech. According to her, accessibility is not only a technical problem, but a complex social issue that cannot be solved only with plain language or user-centered design. She states:

– Ethical issues of accessibility are complex issues of equality and democracy that extend to the structures of society, which cannot be solved by following simple “ethical recipes”. Dealing with accessibility also requires addressing the social, economic, cultural, administrative and political dimensions behind digitisation.

Parviainen’s speech will be in Finnish. In addition to Parviainen, Mary Nurminen from the University of Tampere (presentation in Finnish) and Alolita Sharma, chairman of the board, Unicode Consortium will speak at the event (presentation in English). The seminar will be led by Tommi Jauhiainen.

The hybrid seminar is free of charge. You can register for the event by 25 November 2022. More detailed information about the program on the website of the National Library.
