During the third iteration of the Workshops on the Philosophy of Games at University of Jyväskylä (16.10.-18.10.2023), CONVERGENCE’s Aska Mayer presented “Somaesthetic Experience of Augmented Bodies and their Environment in and Through Digital Science-fiction Games”, in front of an international audience of fellow doctoral researchers, students and established researchers within the field of philosophy in game research. The presented paper provided an insight into the relevance for somatic philosophy and neuroscience for understanding the intricacies of player perception regarding human augmentation within digital games. Mayer’s findings provide an interdisciplinary perspective on the interrelation of sensory perception, emotional reflection, and human-technology-interaction in digital play, to be further enhanced and explored throughout the upcoming years of CONVERGENCE.
The Workshops on the Philosophy of Games are organized in cooperation by the University of Bergen, IT-University of Copenhagen, Game Philosophy Network, and University of Jyväskylä.
