CONVERGENCE Exploring Technologically Altered Experiences at STS Italia 2025

Jurgis Peters and Samuel Kujala at STS Italia 2025

Samuel and Jurgis participated in the 10th STS Italia Conference in Milan, where they explored how art and technology shape our experiences in an increasingly AI-mediated world.

Samuel Kujala and Jurgis Peters took part in the 10th STS Italia Conference “Technoscience For Good” in Milan for a closed panel titled “Artistic, Speculative, and Embodied Explorations into Technologically Altered Experiences.”

In our session, we discussed how artistic and speculative methods can help us better understand the personal, sensory, and societal dimensions of technologically mediated experiences. I had the opportunity to present my ongoing research and share early empirical results from The Looking Glass, a real-time, GenAI-enabled installation that augments the viewer’s self-image and explores perception through interactive reflection.

The conference as a whole offered an inspiring space for deep discussion, especially around the role of AI in STS research. A particular highlight was Ruha Benjamin’s powerful keynote, which challenged us to think critically about equity and innovation in technoscience.
