On November 8th, Doctoral researcher Samuel Kujala attended Aalto AI Day at Otaniemi, engaging in numerous inspiring talks and discussions around the current developments and applications of A.I.

AI Day, the preeminent annual event spotlighting forefront AI research in Finland, witnessed significant attendance from diverse stakeholders within the AI ecosystem. Researchers, representatives from leading companies, students, and public sector professionals actively participated in the event, reflecting the broad engagement of key players in the rapidly advancing field of artificial intelligence.

One of the primary objectives of AI Day is to facilitate meaningful connections and collaborations. The event served as a platform for matchmaking among researchers, industry experts, and other stakeholders, fostering a conducive environment for networking and collaboration. The emphasis on cross-border collaboration further underscored the global significance of AI development.

The robust scientific program of AI Day encompassed a range of formats, including presentations, posters, and demos. Organized by the Finnish Artificial Intelligence Society (FAIS), the call for presentations and posters contributed to the comprehensive and diverse content presented during the event. This structured approach ensured that participants were exposed to a wealth of cutting-edge research, technological demonstrations, and theoretical insights, enhancing the overall academic and professional experience.

In the main poster session, Kujala presented his poster on the topic of the actor’s artistic application of AR filters, which is the first practical step towards his conceptualization of the ‘techno-symbiotic actor’. The presentation included a video demonstration which was described by other attendees as ‘illuminating’, ‘entertaining’, and ‘pretty wild’ — arousing interest across disciplines.

The event offered abundant insight into the state-of-the-art science, industry, and policies in A.I. — which Samuel will eagerly bring back with him into the Convergence headquarters.

In summary, AI Day emerged as a pivotal gathering, effectively uniting researchers, industry representatives, students, and public sector professionals. The event’s emphasis on collaboration, information sharing, and its scientifically rigorous program, orchestrated by FAIS, solidified AI Day’s position as a key annual event in the Finnish AI landscape.
