COFIRD, Tampere University and KONE Delegation Visits IIT-Madras to Strengthen Research and Education Ties

As part of the ongoing India tour under the COFIRD – Co-creation for Finnish-Indian R&D initiative, representatives from COFIRD, Tampere University and KONE visited the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, one of India’s most prestigious engineering institutions.

The meeting centered on potential research collaboration in emerging technologies, particularly in the field of extended reality (XR). IIT-Madras showcased the work of its renowned extended Reality and Interaction Centre (XTIC), presented by Professor Manivannan Muniyandi. The discussions highlighted opportunities for joint research, innovation projects, and knowledge exchange in immersive technologies.
                                             

In addition to research, both sides explored possibilities for deeper educational cooperation between IIT-Madras and Tampere University. Strengthening academic ties remains a key goal for both institutions, and the visit opened doors for future student and faculty exchange, joint programs, and shared innovation platforms. Tampere University’s President, Keijo Hämäläinen, also conveyed his greetings and support for the partnership through a video message.

The delegation expressed gratitude to Priya Venkat for her warm hospitality and for facilitating the constructive discussions.

The visit to IIT-Madras marks another meaningful step toward building long-term collaboration and advancing cutting-edge technological development through joint Finnish-Indian efforts.
